Odor nuisance from air scrubbers
In most cases, air scrubbers are part of the common/required equipment of large-scale farming installations and agro-industrial installations. But all too often, the efficiency of these air scrubbers turns out to be unsufficient, resulting in numerous complaints about odour nuisance. Most of these problems remain, however, rather easy to solve, at an acceptable cost.
After thorough sampling and analysis, we will gradually, and in concerted action with the customer, proceed to the necessary interventions to maximally reduce the odor nuisance for the neighbourhood. It has to be looked at on a case-by-case basis which action should be taken. It is at this point where our many years of experience and know-how in the field of air pollution and odour control as well as in the field of waste water treatment appear to be of great value. According to the customer's needs, our role is consulting, allowing the customer to do the interventions partly or entirely himself or we take care of the entire optimization of the air scrubber. Here as well, we aim to work as cost-effective as possible, always keeping in mind the aimed/required efficiency. Whenever necessary, a biofilter can be attached the installation as second stage in the odor abatement system, in order to become an optimal result.
An air scrubbing installation is one of the most commonly used techniques in air pollution control (removal of hazardous air pollutants) and odor abatement (removal of odor componants, combating odor nuisance) out of air flows to be treated. An air scrubber is used to bring the gas emissions or off-gases to be treated, in contact with a washing liquid (water with most of the time chemical additives), to separate components from the gas and absorb them into the liquid. In order to maximize the contact surface, tower packing is used to increase the performance of the scrubber. Air scrubbing is one of the most used technologies in the field of emission treatment and air pollution, as the air scrubbing technology can be applied for the largest range of gas emissions for the treatment of industrial, agricultural and agro-industrial gas flows. Air scrubbers can be used for the removal of toxic air components (air pollution control) as well as for separation of odour components (odour control or odor abatement).
Air scrubber working principle
Gazeous components out of all kinds of emissions will be absorbed in the liquid present in the air scrubber. In what extend the absorption will be possible, well entirely depend on the solubility of these various gazeous components. It goes without saying that also the initial temperature of the off-gases will have a certain influence. The washing liquid consists of water (wet scrubbers), with added chemicals. The composition of the washing liquid entirely depends on the nature, initial concentration, composition of the components to remove and the efficiency premises of the air scrubber.
According to the flow direction of the off-gases versus the washing liquid, we distinguish counterflow scrubbers (liquid and gas are moving in opposite directions) and crossflow scrubbers (liquid and gas in crossed directions). For certain applications, a combination of both types will be the best solution.
A gas scrubber or air scrubber mainly consists of following components : scrubbing vessel or tower (packed column), tower packing (structured or random, Pall rings, Raschig rings), droplet separator, spray nozzle(s) or liquid distributor, pump, chemical dosing systems, measure and control instruments (pH, redox), water supply system.
Custom made air scrubbers - integrated solutions
Our air scrubbers are always custom made, especially designed for the gas emissions offered and adaptable to the customer's demands. For each application, the concept has been well considered, to allow for adaptation according to production changes (different composition of the off-gases, flow increases in agro-industrial environments); all this within certain limits. This way, the air scrubber can be adjusted in an economic way, whenever necessary. All air scrubbers are designed to integrate seamlessly in the existing production environment.

Maintenance of existing air scrubbers : replacement of packing and internals - follow-up and adjustments
The correct choice of packing material and other internals for air scrubbers is a specialist job. Because this selection is highly responsible for the good functioning and, above all, the efficiency of your air scrubbing installation. Compacted, congested packing will increase the pressure drop over the air scrubber and will drastically reduce the installation's performance. We take care of the replacement of packing and internals and guide you in the selection of the correct type of material for an optimal efficiency.
At the same time, we will also look closely at various measurements such as pH, redox and conductivity and adjust whenever necessary.

Heat recovery system in combination with air scrubber installations - green energy out of gas emissions for energy cost reduction
Most types of air scrubbers can be optionally provided with a heat recovery system. The heat recovered can be used to increase for instance the temperature of all kinds of process water (see also our process water - membrane filtration section). This kind of heat recovery system allows to considerably cut energy costs. It would be highly regrettable to waste the heat out of your production process, considering the actual energy cost. It goes without saying that the integration of heat recovery systems can also be realized as part of a gas scrubbing optimization project (optimization of existing gas scrubbers).
