However, in many cases this technique is used to treat specific wastewater and process water streams, such as oil emulsions. <\/p>\n<p>Most filtration techniques can only filter undissolved particles from the water. Microfiltration and ultrafiltration can only remove suspended solids from the pretreated wastewater. Consequently, dissolved salts, dyes, metal ions (which affect the conductivity of the water) and sugars remain in the wastewater. As a result, this water cannot be reused in the production process. Only reverse osmosis (RO) allows salts, metal ions, etc. to be removed.    <\/p>\n<p>Reverse osmosis allows the highest degree of purification, physically, chemically, organically and bacteriologically. Each type has its preferred field of application. The membranes must be and remain resistant to solvents, high temperatures and very different pH values. As a result, the new generation of membranes has also become increasingly efficient. Compared to the old generation of membranes, the replacement of membranes can be postponed longer and longer. The need to maximize the reuse of these wastewaters is increasing, especially for companies where water plays a major role in the production process (slaughterhouses, laundries, cosmetics production, food and beverage industry, textiles, etc.). <\/p>\n<p>Deploying an RO plant allows a substantial portion of wastewater to be reused in the production process. As a result, your company can save substantially on water and discharge costs. Consequently, the investment can be recovered relatively quickly. Moreover, the operating cost is often significantly lower than the purchase price of city water. For example, depending on the customer\u2019s specific requirements, this is only one-third of the purchase price of city water.    <\/p>\n<p>For each specific project, the feasibility is checked in advance through efficiency and dimensioning tests on site. If necessary, a test installation is deployed. The final system is completely custom designed for the customer. This always depends on the type of wastewater, the intended quality for reuse and the economical aspects.   <\/p>\n<p>The RO installation is mounted on a skid to form a compact unit, easily integrated into an existing wastewater treatment plant. The oxygen content of various process waters can thus be reduced to ppb levels. In a degassing unit, the gases dissolved in the liquid are removed from the liquid by means of so-called membrane contactors. The gases that can be removed are not only oxygen but also CO<sub>2<\/sub> and NH<sub>3<\/sub>. The degassing is done under vacuum, with or without a stripping gas. Liquid degassing with membranes allows a very compact installation to fit into an industrial environment, without large retrofit costs and\/or space requirements for the customer. Significant savings can be made in operational costs. For example, an industrial nitrogen grade can be used instead of a pure (and more expensive) variant. On an annual basis, this can save you a lot of money!
