Biogas desulfurization

Raw biogas consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide, as well as smaller amounts of hydrogen sulfide and nitrogen gas. Hydrogen sulfide or H2S must be removed from the biogas before it can be used as a combustion source.

The danger of H2S or hydrogen sulfide

H2S or hydrogen sulfide is a toxic and flammable gas with the typical odour of rotten eggs. This gas results from the decay of many sulfur-containing organic substances, such as proteins. It is toxic to humans and most animals. In addition, it is also a corrosive gas. Therefore, it is extremely important to remove H2S with biogas desulfurization.

How is H2S removed from biogas?

For the removal of H2S, a gas scrubbing plant is used in which H2S is absorbed from biogas. Such installation consists of one or more gas scrubbers.

TASK proves time and again that we take all constructions and placements very seriously by meeting the required standards and obtaining the necessary certificates. We are therefore the right partner for carrying out your installation.

H2S removal efficiency with a biological gas scrubber

The removal efficiency with this method is around 95%. This means that virtually no odour is released into the environment. This can be substantiated by a simple odour measurement or olfactometry.

One of the main advantages of this removal technique is the very low operating cost. After all, no constant supply of chemicals is required.

H2S removal efficiency with a chemical gas scrubber

In certain cases, hydrogen sulfide cannot be removed with a biological gas scrubber. One solution is to use a one- or multi-stage gas scrubber operated with chemicals. In practice, multiple stages (gas scrubbers) will be necessary to efficiently remove H2S from gas streams.

Also here we can provide a customized solution, such that the odour nuisance for the environment is no longer perceptible. Naturally, this can also be substantiated by simple odour measurement or olfactometry. Together with our partners we can assist you.

Our approach

We aim for durable, maintenance-friendly and well-functioning solutions. In-depth training of the maintenance personnel on site must also guarantee that the installation continues to run smoothly in the long term. Should problems nevertheless occur, rapid intervention is always guaranteed.

Depending on the needs, we build a ready-to-use installation or assist you with advice. If necessary, we also take care of the preliminary study work. From the initial feasibility studies to the complete engineering and realization, start-up and instruction of the responsible personnel, everything remains in one hand, which considerably simplifies matters for the customer.

How do we work?

When you contact us for a problem with contaminated air, we will work with you to determine the nature of the contamination.

We take the necessary measurements and tests.

We propose a customized solution.

We install and commission the system.

We provide the necessary maintenance afterwards or train maintenance personnel on site.

If the source of pollution changes (e.g., due to changes in your production processes), we will optimize the air purification system as needed.
