Gas scrubber for industrial emission treatment
Gas scrubbers are one of the most widely used technologies for treating industrial off-gases. Gas scrubbers are used to remove harmful and odour-causing components. The spectrum of treatable emission streams is very large. Gas scrubbers can be built for both large and small flow rates (see also compact tank and lab scrubbers).
We always think with you in search of the best solution tailored to your business.
What are gas scrubbers?
In a scrubber, the contaminated air stream is brought into contact with a cleaning liquid to remove unwanted components from the gas. These components are absorbed into the liquid. Inside the column, there are filling bodies or packing to increase the efficiency of the scrubber. The washing liquid consists of water to which chemicals are added.
A gas scrubbing system mainly consists of the following components:
- wash tower/column
- filling bodies or packing (structured or loose packing: Pall rings, Raschig rings, …)
- drip catcher
- nozzle(s) or fluid distributors
- pump
- chemical dosage
- measurement and control equipment (pH, redox)
- water replenishment system

TASK proves time and again that we take all constructions and placements very seriously by meeting the required standards and obtaining the necessary certificates. We are therefore the right partner for carrying out your installation.
What components can a chemical scrubber remove?
- Hydrogen sulfide (H2S)
- Nitrogen oxide (NOx)
- Ammonia (NH3)
- Ethylene oxide (EO)
- Hydrochloric acid, hydrogen chloride (HCl)
- Sulfur dioxide (SO2)
- Amines
- Formaldehyde, formol (CH2O)
- Amines
- Nitric acid (HNO3)
- Phenol
- Mercaptans, thiols, organosulfur compounds (R-HS)
High quality materials
Gas scrubbers or scrubbers are usually manufactured in all kinds of plastics. In certain circumstances, these plastics are less suitable for the application, in which case we opt for a stainless steel scrubber.

A custom gas scrubber
Our gas scrubbers are always customized. They are specifically designed for the offered emission flow and adaptable according to the customer’s wishes. Each scrubber is designed in such a way, that it can always be adapted to changes in the production process (both in the composition of the off-gas flow, as well as in the flow rate), within certain limits.
For air flows with acidic components, a gas scrubber with NaOH is often opted for. This neutralizing scrubber has a high efficiency. Moreover, the wastewater has a neutral pH, which facilitates further processing.
What are the benefits of a scrubber?
- relatively simple and easy to control, even for larger flow rates
- low energy consumption
- compact and space-saving
- predictable and guaranteed returns
- high removal efficiency
- low-maintenance
- versatile, in numerous industrial sectors
Are there any drawbacks to gas scrubbers?
- wastewater must be treated
- water and chemical consumption
- frost
For some odour control applications, preliminary pilot testing may be appropriate, to estimate feasibility (see also pilot gas scrubbers).
What industries can gas scrubbers be used in?
waste processing and waste disposal industry
chemical and pharmaceutical industry
food industry
animal feed and pet food
fertilizer production and fertilizer processing
oil processing industry
metal and surface treatment
agriculture
How do we work?
When you contact us for a problem with contaminated air, we will work with you to determine the nature of the contamination.
We take the necessary measurements and tests.
We propose a customized solution.
We install and commission the system.
We provide the necessary maintenance afterwards or train maintenance personnel on site.
If the source of pollution changes (e.g., due to changes in your production processes), we will optimize the air purification system as needed.
Heat recovery coupled with gas scrubbers
Most types of gas scrubbers are optionally equipped with a heat recovery system. The recovered heat can be used to heat process waters. Such a heat recuperation system allows significant savings in energy costs. Of course, we also realize this modification in the context of optimizing an existing scrubber.
