Odour control in chicken slaughterhouse

geurbehandeling met gaswassers in kippenslachthuis

Vanobel is a chicken slaughterhouse in Waregem and one of the market leaders in Belgium. Up to 900,000 chickens are slaughtered every week. Slaughtering chickens is a process that releases many odours, which can cause odour nuisance to nearby residents.

Such odours, if not treated correctly, can cause odour nuisance to nearby residents, especially in the case of intensive or long-term production. Vanobel therefore attaches great importance to sustainable and socially responsible business practices and chose to invest in an oxidative scrubber to control these emissions.

The supplied scrubber was installed indoors. The scrubber handles an airflow of 20,000 m³/h and is specifically tailored to the composition of process air in a slaughterhouse environment.

The oxidative principle ensures the chemical breakdown of odour-causing components, such as sulphur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds. The plant is made of chemical-resistant material and equipped with automated monitoring of pH, redox value and liquid consumption, among others, to ensure stable and efficient operation.

This investment is part of Vanobel’s broader vision of quality assurance, environmental management and social responsibility. By proactively addressing odour nuisance, the company retains the trust of the local community and complies with applicable environmental legislation.
