Robert Bosch Produktie in Tienen produces wiper arms and wiper blades based on rubber. This Bosch location also has an extensive knowledge centre where research and development takes place in the field of materials, production methods and sustainability.
As with many industrial processes, the production of rubber components also releases wastewater contaminated with organic matter, rubber particles, plasticisers and additives, among others. Bosch’s wastewater is treated in the on-site wastewater treatment plant before being discharged.
The water treatment plant is equipped with a filter press. The chamber filter press ensures effective dewatering of the sludge. This unit presses the sludge between plates under high pressure, squeezing out most of the water and significantly reducing the sludge volume. The result is a compact, firm sludge cake with low moisture content, making transport and processing more economical. The dry sludge cake is then disposed of externally.
Sustainable approach
By combining local treatment and efficient sludge processing, Bosch in Tienen is reducing its ecological footprint and contributing to sustainable industrial operations. The presence of its own water treatment plant and the use of modern techniques illustrate Bosch’s proactive environmental strategy, which focuses on efficient water management and circular thinking.
