Packing and internals for gas scrubbers
The packing and internals are important functional components of scrubbers. The packing ensures proper fluid distribution in the scrubber, which positively affects efficiency. The other internals include nozzles, demisters, drip catchers, …
Task selects the right packing and internals for your scrubber
Is your scrubber’s packing in need of replacement? Is the installation no longer achieving the required efficiency? Then TASK can help you with our more than 30 years of experience in air purification and odour treatment. We look at your specific problem and find a customized solution. The design of a packed column, the correct dimensioning and selection of internals are a matter of know-how and experience. We have extensive experience in various very specific applications. We offer the following internals: loose or structured packing, nozzles, demisters, drip catchers, liquid distributors, etc.
Packing for gas scrubbers or air scrubbers
The packing is a mass of inert, solid forms placed in a cylindrical column or wash tower. The packing is used to create a larger exchange surface between the gas and liquid phases in a packed column. There are loose filling bodies and also structured packing (possibly in sections and/or discs), tailored to the gas scrubber. Gas scrubbers are used to remove contaminants from a gas stream (absorption). In addition, packed columns can also be used to remove volatile components from a liquid stream (stripping).
We select the correct packing type, according to the application, temperature and components present in the gas stream.
Experience and know-how are crucial here to ensure that your air scrubber does what it was designed to do: remove harmful components and/or odors from flue gas streams. This gasket can be made of various types of plastic, stainless steel or ceramic materials. These materials each have their specific application. The right choice of gasket is crucial for the proper functioning of an air scrubber with optimal efficiency. We will gladly help you choose the right gasket, also for existing scrubbers.
There are many different types of packing or fill bodies for gas scrubbers. In general, they can be classified into two main groups: structured packing and loose packing.

TASK proves time and again that we take all constructions and placements very seriously by meeting the required standards and obtaining the necessary certificates. We are therefore the right partner for carrying out your installation.
Structured packing
Structured packing consists of plastic or metal blocks with a honeycomb or herringbone structure. Structured packing is delivered cut to the size of the scrubber, absorber or wash column. This is done in several layers.
Structured packing has some advantages over loose packing:
- higher removal efficiency
- efficient use of available surface area
- lower pressure drop
Loose packing
Loose packing (Pall rings, Raschig rings, saddle rings, etc.) are made of metal, plastic or ceramic.
The benefits of loose packing at a glance:
- strong (mechanically)
- good resistance to accumulation of dirt
- cheap
- easily replaceable and cleanable
Loose packing (metal/plastic) is very suitable when:
- no extremely high removal efficiency is required
- the pressure drop is not critical
- Whether the risk of dirt deposition is higher.
If the application requires high temperature or chemical resistance, ceramic packing is most suitable.
Demisters, droplet separator and other internals
In addition to packing, we also supply:
droplet separators
demisters
nozzles
liquid distributors
liquid redistributors
