Pilot gas scrubber testing – test installation for air pollution, VOC abatement and odor control : advantages
Some industrial emissions are hard to treat. Most of the time, we are talking about rather complex odor nuisance problems, for which there are no standard solutions available. Nevertheless, an economically and technically feasible solution can be found. Though this requires know-how and experience. After all, the end result is to offer a well thought-out and technologically sound solution, custom made for your company and perfectly integrated in its specific production process. Seen the complexity of the matter, it is sometimes recommended to do some tests with a pilot scrubber, during a certain period of time. This allows to try out in practice the “theoretically best solution” on paper. During the test period samples can be taken and the installation can be adjusted, if necessary. Especially for complex odor nuisance problems, this kind of pilot gas scrubber offers the customer as well as ourselves certainty about the results to be achieved. Testing with a pilot gas scrubber is certainly indicated for going straight out to a final solution for the odour problem. Taking into account the cost and the vexation caused by incomplete solutions, the cost for the rent of a pilot installation is to be neglected.
Pilot gas scrubber: some practical information
The scrubber consists of a twostage stacked column in polypropylene, provided with the necessary dosing pumps, pH and redox measurement and control circuits. The installation can be operated as a one or two stage unit, with several possible combinations of acid, alkaline or oxidative stages.
The installation is also provided with an emission ventilator placed downstream, after the column, allowing a simple and easy evaluation of the treated gas emission. The most important operating parameters, such as pH are constantly registered, for wireless transfer by datalogger to be consulted anywhere in the world.
As a general rule, the installation is put at disposal of the customer on a rental basis for a period of 4 weeks.
During this test period Task is of course following up the installation, at site and at a distance through wireless communication by datalogger. Task can also put basic measurement equipment at disposal of the customer to take samples of the emission gas flow. For very specific sampling and analysis, Task is calling in the assistance of specialized companies in this area, whenever necessary.
After completion of the tests an evaluation will follow ; the discussion of the results with the customer will lead, if relevant, to a full scale project proposal. The pilot testing stage has several important advantages, for the customer as well as for ourselves, as well as for a potential contractor. Many preliminary questions will be answered, the tests are providing the customer and ourselves a guarantee regarding the feasibility of the desired results.
